Prince of Peace Preschool

Transitional Kindergarten

Transitional kindergarten is a bridge between preschool and kindergarten.  It is ideal for children who are not age-eligible for kindergarten or need another year to develop socially or academically before advancing to kindergarten.  Children in transitional kindergarten will strive toward similar goals as those of kindergarten students, but will work at a modified pace.

Transitional kindergarten is not just another year of preschool.  Our program is designed to provide children the skills needed to tackle the challenges of kindergarten.  Students will develop academic readiness and age appropriate learning behaviors and social skills.

Classes are held Monday through Thursday from 12:30 to 3:00 p.m.  Children must be at least 4 years old and have completed one year of four-year old preschool.

Curriculum

The Transitional Kindergarten program provides a modified academic readiness curriculum based on Pennsylvania Early Learning Standards provided with an individualized pace of instruction in a small structured educational environment. Our hands-on learning activities are designed to meet the individual needs of each student with a focus on reading readiness, math and science concepts, fine and gross motor skills and social skills training.  Art, music, computer education and indoor and outdoor play round out the children’s day.
